New Signing Koopmeiners Explains the Significance of His Jersey Number at Juventus
The Dutch newcomer has explained why he chose to wear the number 8 jersey at Allianz Stadium.
The Dutch national team player has just completed his transfer from Atalanta to the Allianz Stadium-based club. The fee for Teun Koopmeiners’ signature is significant, reportedly no less than €60 million.
Koopmeiners was extremely excited during the contract signing ceremony with Bianconeri. He also affirmed that he came to Turin to help the team achieve victories. The former Atalanta player shared with the media the reason why he chose to wear the number 8 jersey.
“It is a very meaningful number to me. I often chose to wear the number 8 when I was a kid. It was also the number I wore at my first club. So, as soon as I arrived here, I expressed my desire to have this number, and Juve agreed,” the Dutch midfielder shared emotionally.
Before Teun Koopmeiners joined the club, the number 8 jersey had been “lonely” since Aaron Ramsey’s departure. The most notable player to have worn this jersey was Claudio Marchisio. The talented Italian midfielder turned the number 8 jersey into a legend in Turin, serving the “Old Lady” for nine years from 2009 to 2018.
