3 Takeaways from Bayern’s “Rout” Victory

Bayern Munich unleashed a “goal storm” against the home team, as a way to demonstrate their strength in the Bundesliga.

Despite playing away at Holstein Kiel, the power of the Bavarian giants seems unstoppable at the moment. Just 14 seconds in, Jamal Musiala put Bayern ahead, and they went on to score five more goals. Kiel, despite their best efforts, could only manage a consolation goal.

Here are three key takeaways from Bayern Munich’s 6-1 demolition last night.

Overwhelming Strength

Kiel, despite having home-field advantage, was clearly outclassed by Bayern in every aspect. Yet, it’s undeniable that Vincent Kompany’s team played an outstanding match. Nearly every attacking move by Harry Kane and his teammates was meticulously calculated.

The midfield duo of João Palhinha and Joshua Kimmich not only controlled the game well but also frequently delivered precise passes into the final third. Meanwhile, Musiala, Serge Gnabry, and Kane demonstrated excellent off-the-ball movement.

Bayern are too strong for small Kiel.

The post-match statistics show that Bayern controlled 71% of possession and had 25 shots, 12 of which were on target. In this light, conceding only six goals might be considered fortunate for Holstein Kiel.

Explosive Attack

Serge Gnabry hasn’t been considered an essential player for Bayern for some time, but he’s gradually regaining his form. Last night, the former Arsenal forward made impressive runs, leaving Kiel’s defense unsure of how to mark him.

Vincent Kompany’s new system also allowed Kane the freedom to roam in the final third, maximizing both his playmaking and finishing abilities. The former Tottenham Hotspur star exploded with a hat-trick.

Kane is scoring goals like a machine.

Meanwhile, Jamal Musiala is playing better than ever. After performing well in two Nations League matches for Germany, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder was involved in three of Bayern’s goals against Kiel. This also serves as a strong response to France Football for not including him in the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or.

Gap Between Starters and Substitutes

It would have been a perfect night if Bayern hadn’t conceded a goal. The situation leading to their only goal conceded is worth noting, as it happened in the second half when most of the key players were subbed off in preparation for the Champions League.

Konrad Laimer didn’t provide enough defensive support for Holstein Kiel’s goal, and Mathys Tel didn’t add much value. Michael Olise was a rare bright spot from the bench, while Thomas Müller also failed to make an impact. The difference in quality between the starting lineup and the bench will be a headache for Coach Kompany in the coming weeks.
