A player must leave Man Utd immediately after the win over Barnsley.

The English defender really should leave Old Trafford during the winter transfer window.

Early this morning, Manchester United began their 2024/25 League Cup campaign with a clash against Barnsley. Hosting a League One opponent at home, it was unsurprising that manager Erik ten Hag gave Manuel Ugarte his first start, while also naming lesser-used players like Toby Collyer and Altay Bayindir in the starting lineup.

Ten Hag remained quite cautious.

However, despite facing a weaker opponent, Ten Hag was expected to give opportunities to young talents, at least from the bench. In the end, though, Collyer was the only “rising star” the Dutch strategist utilized, while Ethan Wheatley was the only other young player named in the squad, but he remained on the bench for the entire match.

“There haven’t been any discussions with Ten Hag, but this preseason was a chance to prove that if selected, I could perform well. We’ll have to wait and see what happens when Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia return to the squad. My intention is to play in the first team at this club.”

“If the opportunity comes, I must seize it with both hands, as it could change my career. I’m just waiting for that moment, and I’m ready.”

Those were the words of Harry Amass during a summer interview, and ahead of the Barnsley match, many fans hoped Ten Hag would give him a chance. But in reality, not only was he not given any game time, the English defender didn’t even make the bench. This could be a sign that Amass hasn’t yet earned Ten Hag’s trust, and he should start looking for a suitable club to move to during the winter transfer window.

Amass is not yet trusted by Ten Hag.

It’s easy to say that Amass was one of the most impressive players for Man Utd during preseason, even going up against Mohamed Salah in the Liverpool match and holding his own. Clearly, Amass seized his opportunity and showcased his abilities, and based on his earlier statements, it’s evident that he expected to be part of the first team this season.

Facing a weak opponent like Barnsley at home, Amass seemed to be on the verge of making his official first-team debut for Man Utd. However, Ten Hag had a different approach, preferring to play midfielder Toby Collyer as a left-back rather than using Amass. It’s clear that Ten Hag’s plans don’t yet include the 17-year-old talent, and he should quickly leave Old Trafford in the winter window to gain experience in professional football.
