Aside from Sterling, Arsenal targets two big stars to support Saka.

Commenting on Football365, journalist Charles Watts revealed Arsenal’s backup plans in the pursuit of signing forward Raheem Sterling from Chelsea.

On the final day of the 2024 summer transfer window, Arsenal surprised many by deciding to sign winger Sterling from their city rivals, Chelsea, on a one-year loan deal. The English star will wear the Gunners’ shirt this season, and his £320,000 per week salary will be shared between the two clubs.

Sterling has become an Arsenal man.

The 29-year-old has already joined his first training sessions with his new team and is expected to make his debut when Mikel Arteta’s squad travels to Tottenham Hotspur for the 4th round of the 2024/25 Premier League on September 15. However, aside from Sterling, in the final days of the summer 2024 transfer window, Arsenal also had their eyes on two other star forwards in Europe, as revealed by journalist Watts recently.

‘Sterling’s playing style fits very well with Arsenal. We all know that coach Arteta loves wingers who can cut inside and shoot like Sterling. He can also serve as a backup for Bukayo Saka, who has been playing a lot recently, so I think this was a smart move by Arsenal. In fact, Arsenal also tried to sign other wingers, notably Nico Williams, but it wasn’t possible. Kingsley Coman was also linked, but I have more details about this deal. Coman’s agent tried everything in the final hours, but it didn’t succeed,’ Watts said on Football365.

Sterling was once one of the top wingers in the Premier League, winning the league four times, but since joining Chelsea, the 1994-born forward has not maintained his top form. As a result, before moving to Arsenal, the former Manchester City star had been isolated from Chelsea’s first team by coach Enzo Maresca.
