CONFIRMED! Barcelona Youngster Suffers ACL Tear, Likely to Miss Rest of the Season

Barcelona‘s official website has confirmed that midfielder Marc Bernal has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in the match against Rayo Vallecano.

In Barca’s 2-1 victory over Vallecano in the third round of La Liga 2024/25, which took place early this morning, young talent Bernal was injured after a collision with an opponent and could not complete the match.

After the game, there were reports in Spain speculating that the 17-year-old might have sustained a severe knee injury, as Bernal was unable to walk on his own and needed assistance from the medical team. Coach Hans-Dieter Flick also acknowledged that the issue faced by his player was significant.

Recently, Barcelona’s official site provided an update on Bernal’s injury, confirming that he has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and sustained meniscus damage. The promising talent from La Masia will undergo surgery this weekend.

Bernal (middle) has to leave the field for a long time.

According to Javi Miguel, a trusted journalist with the Blaugrana, Bernal is likely to be sidelined for approximately 10-12 months, meaning he will miss the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

This is a major blow for the Camp Nou side, as the team’s midfield already has two other injury concerns with Gavi and Frenkie de Jong. Coach Flick now has only four midfielders available: Pablo Torre, Marc Casado, Pedri, and Fermin Lopez.

Bernal had been delivering impressive performances for Barcelona’s first team recently. The Spanish star had started all three of the club’s La Liga matches this season.
