‘Poaching’ Al Nassr, Enrique wants Ronaldo’s teammate.
PSG coach Luis Enrique has requested that the club’s management initiate talks to sign Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammate from Al-Nassr.
Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) defense has recently struggled due to injuries and a lack of depth in the squad. To address this situation, the Ligue 1 giants have quickly looked at available options during the summer 2024 transfer window and are reportedly eyeing a veteran center-back in the Saudi Pro League.
According to Jose Alvarez of El Chiringuito, PSG coach Luis Enrique has asked the club’s management to begin negotiations with Al-Nassr for the transfer of defender Aymeric Laporte.
Laporte, who previously played for Manchester City, has been a key figure in Al-Nassr’s defense since joining the club. Notably, the 30-year-old delivered an outstanding performance for the Spanish national team, helping them achieve glory at Euro 2024.
These performances have attracted the attention of several top European clubs, including Real Madrid. However, Los Blancos have emphasized that they do not intend to add more players to their squad. Nonetheless, with the departure of Nacho, Ancelotti may need to consider adding a center-back, and Laporte could become a target.
PSG’s financial strength and the allure of returning to a top European league could be compelling factors for Laporte. However, the Saudi Arabian football project is also highly attractive, with clubs signing many of Europe’s biggest stars. Al Nassr, with stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Mane, has shown its significant ambitions, so the potential departure of Laporte will surely be carefully considered.
PSG’s pursuit of Laporte may face many challenges, but it could also present a great opportunity if the parties can reach an agreement. Adding an experienced center-back like Laporte would strengthen PSG’s defense, enhance their competitiveness in major tournaments, and address long-standing weaknesses.
